Kids for the Cure is in the process of applying for our 501(c)3 non-profit status with the IRS. If our application is granted, Kids for the Cure will become a fully tax-exempt organization. Kids for the Cure will be eligible to apply for numerous grants as well.

The ten-year plan for Kids for the Cure is to establish more chapters (besides the Trinity chapter being established this year) in schools in the community. The chapters of Kids for the Cure will essentially exist on their own, hosting their own fundraisers and kit creations, but Kids for the Cure board members and officers will still be involved significantly in the different chapters. Kids for the Cure will also host their own fundraisers starting off with the Flapjack Fundraiser this July at Applebees in Manchester.

It is my hope that Kids for the Cure will expand in the future. We are launching a brand-new “Hope Campaign” this June. Other ideas for the future include a “big brothers-big sisters” type of program for children of cancer patients and the creation of a memory garden. Trinity’s chapter will also be having a benefit concert next fall and a relay in the spring that will be open to both students and Trinity alum.

In order to be granted 501(c)3 status, it is required that Kids for the Cure have a board of directors. This board will mainly be an advisory board for at least the first few years. Because it will be an advisory board,  the time commitment on the part of our board members should not be too great. We are only required to have six meetings a year and because a great deal of our board members will be off at school we will most likely be just hitting that requirement. These meetings will all be at a time convenient for all board members.

If you are interested in becoming a board member, please contact me at emily.bourque@comcast.net.
